I just wanted to say thank you for bringing people together! Brad and I met while staying at the Share house on Martyn street in 2007 and we have just recently married in beautiful Palm Cove on 21 August 2010.
We spent 8 months living in Cairns, at the Share house before we drove down the East coast to Newcastle (Brad's hometown). We have since spent time in Vancouver, Canada, my hometown and we now reside in Newcastle, NSW.
Thank you again for helping to bring us together!
Brad (Australia) and Sara (Canada)
I’m not sure where to start, but all I can say is that the Cairns Sharehouse is and will remain one of my biggest and best memories during my travels. I met some fantastic people through the Cairns Sharehouse and enjoyed every second there. I first stayed at the Cairns Sharehouse back in September 2010 for 3 months and could not believe what you could get for your money. The staff are so friendly, the houses are clean, well looked after and you have the luxury of having your own room, TV, DVD player - its great! There are plenty of activities to take part in while you are in Cairns including a trip to the Great Barrier Reef, visit one of the islands (Fitzroy Island is my favorite), Rafting, Rainforests, Waterfalls, Beaches, Lagoon, Camping, Bungee jumps and the rest! There is so much to see and do I returned to Cairns in February/March 2011 and of course stayed at the Cairns Sharehouse again :). I would highly recommend the Cairns Sharehouse for all travellers; it beats a hostel any day.

We arrived in Cairns on the 28th of February on a rainy night. We had booked a hostel for a couple of days but realised it was too expensive to stay there for a longer time. So we went looking for some apartments around Cairns, but none of them were any good. We thought we weren't going to find a place to stay. We were walking down the road and saw an advert for Cairns Sharehouse and we called them immediately. When we came in to the office we were welcomed by the friendly staff that showed us many options and helped us pick the best one. We then never looked back and stayed in our house for 8 months. CSH helped us with job ideas and I ended up working with them as a cleaner and I really enjoyed it. The facilities of the house were very good and clean, and if there were ever a problem it would be fixed very quickly. Sadly we had to leave Cairns to explore more of Australia, but we really enjoyed our stay with CSH and we will miss them all. We would highly recommend them to anybody planning a trip to Cairns. The CSH team has and will always have a special place in our hearts. They made it worth staying in Cairns.

We came to Cairns from Melbourne and as we weren't sure how long we'd be in Cairns so we weren't prepared to sign a six month lease on a rental property or share house. The flexibility of Cairns Sharehouse suited our needs, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the quality of the rooms was great. It was also a good opportunity to meet people from all over the world and we now have lots of friendly faces to visit next time we go traveling. Our insider tips are the free active for life activities like aqua aerobics at the esplanade and a Korean restaurant called Corea Corea - it's in the Orchard Plaza, is delicious, and you get a discount with your Cairns Sharehouse discount card!

This is a brilliant cross between a hostel and a flat. It is cheap and you get to meet fellow travellers who are all in the same boat as you. We met brilliant people to go out with and have a laugh with. Saying that it was almost always quiet by 10.30 so you weren`t kept up all night like you would be in a hostel. You have also the benefit of the kitchen and bathrooms being professionally cleaned for you. The share houses are all within a short walk from Cairns Central and also the high street and most importantly all of the pubs and clubs!!! Stay here and it will be the best decision you make! It was for us!

I was so relieved when I came across Cairns Sharehouse’s website and one of the reasons I came up to Cairns from Brisbane was due to the fact I found this accommodation! I was looking for three things - sunshine!, fantastic accommodation & a place where I could meet new people & I definitely found all three in Cairns!! I spent 6 weeks staying with the Sharehouse. I loved every minute of it!! :)! The accommodation is great, modern, clean & easy to live in! The staff are always ready too help with what ever you need at any time of the day,(even at 5am on New Years Day :)!) They arranged our Christmas Day with a trip to the Great Barrier Reef it was great plus we got discount! I am very grateful of the help the staff provided! Cairns Sharehouse is definitely the best place to stay if you’re visiting Cairns for a while! There is plenty to do in Cairns from visiting the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island, The Rainforest, too Bungee jumping & river rafting, & there are also a lot of yummy restaurants too check out! Also check out the discounts you receive from staying with CSH!

Hospitality Students on Placement
I am currently working at the Novotel in Cairns as a part of my courses for 6 months placement. I chose to come to Cairns because I wanted to enjoy work experience in a tropical destination which has a lot of beaches. I chose Cairns Sharehouse because the accommodation seemed to be set up well for students on a budget, and the easy walking distance into town. I am in an apartment with 8 other people so it is quite social and spent most evenings hanging out together, watching movies, or going out into town. I like my room as it is a good size with a window and everything that a student needs, and feels a bit more like home rather than a hostel or hotel. I really am enjoying working at Novotel and the other staff is so nice to me!

As a part of my University requirements, I am currently completing a 6 month placement at the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort. I decided to come to Cairns as I wanted to experience a different lifestyle to the one I had in Sydney. I chose Cairns Sharehouse as I believe it would be a lot simpler than dealing with landlords and real estate to find fully furnished accommodation. It is perfectly suited for those travelling and working short or long term and it provides you with everything you need. I am in an apartment situated close to the city, living with people from all over the world and it's a great place to start friendships and build on them. My room is a comfortable size and suits the needs of a student living and working in Cairns. I'm thoroughly enjoying my placement and the attractions Cairns has to offer and I don't regret my choice one bit.
Charlene, 20, from Hong Kong studying in the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School
I am a student at Blue Mountains Hotel School and am currently completing my first year of industry placement at Pullman Reef Hotel Casino. I chose to complete my 6 months of placement in Cairns because I have a lot of family up this end of Queensland and I also wanted the opportunity to work in a Hotel that provided a more relaxed resort style atmosphere, which the Reef Hotel Casino provides. Cairns Sharehouse is a great opportunity to make friends whilst on your travels. It can be as social or independent as you like. The rooms are of a good size for a student and provide you with the basics- a bed, desk, cupboard and air-conditioning for the warmer months. I love working at the casino however with my late night/early morning finishes, I hate walking home! Cairns Sharehouse is a perfect distance away from town or a cheap taxi fare!

When I figured that I didn't have to stick to my own country when choosing where to do my degree and found out about Cairns, I didn't doubt it for a second. Cairns just had everything that fascinated me and all the things i love. The great barrier reef practically on my doorstep and the rainforest in my backyard, plus heaps of other opportunities for having a fun time. The course itself also seemed really varied with a lot of options compared to what I'd have when doing an equivalent degree back home.
When doing a degree in marine biology or any other natural science degree, Cairns is the place to be. It is a small campus with some very competent lecturers and with the unique nature and wildlife you find around here, you can be sure to end up with a good degree that you enjoyed studying for. There is also just so much to do in Cairns and never a dull moment. I love having the opportunity to go diving and seeing wildlife i never had the opportunity to see before. That there is a pub on practically every street corner is a big plus in my book too. Cairns is also like a gigantic melting pot of different nationalities. You meet so many nice people from all over the world that have the same love of travel and view of life as you do. I have made friends for life and after meeting all these people i just want to see more of the world. My bucket list grows longer by the day!
I could either choose to be close to town or close to campus. I think i made the right choice when choosing to stay with Cairns share house because I’ve always had the opportunity to meet new people besides uni and it is easier to go out and do things when i don't have to worry about missing the last bus home, to get to the campus in the morning has never been an issue regardless. I also looked at the JCU student lodge but found out that Cairns Sharehouse was economically a better option. All the discounts that i have gotten from staying with the Cairns Sharehouse have also come in really handy and the pub crawls with the other share houses have been absolutely epic!

I am currently on my final placement at CBH as a student Dietitian. I chose to come to Cairns because I wanted to explore the area, have new adventures and meet new people. I decided to stay in a Cairns Sharehouse because it was recommend by many other students in my course, and also wanted to be around other people my age without the full-on party/backpacking scene. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival to find i had my own outdoor area and a TV and DVD player, and ample space for my stuff! It's so close to walk into town and to the hospital, I'd recommend Cairns Sharehouse to other people in my situation!
Ashleigh, 23, studying at Griffith University Gold Coast.
I am currently studying Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Newcastle and was allocated to Cairns. I chose Cairns share-house as it provided the most affordable accommodation for a university student, and it was also in close proximity to the main attractions in Cairns. I have only been here a few days, but the room is furnished with all that I need. I am enjoying my first visit to Cairns and learning a lot while working.
